The Filmmaking course invites participants to explore the cinematic universe through film.

Workshop

cinema

Alexis Zelensky

We present tools that allow for an approach to documentary filmmaking and broaden the understanding of moving images, taking participants beyond the role of spectators and exploring the processes, techniques, and crafts involved in audiovisual creation. Throughout the course, the group experiments with the use of the main resources of cinema—lighting, camera, sound, and editing—while developing sensitivity and understanding of the stages of documentary filmmaking: choosing a topic, research, scriptwriting, interviews, directing, and aesthetic decisions. We propose the location where the workshops are held as a starting point. From there, participants are invited to observe their surroundings, people, and landscapes, reflecting on the perspectives that construct this territory and the stories they wish to tell. After all, the best way to understand cinema is by making a film.

INSTRUCTOR

A self-taught French filmmaker. After graduating with a degree in Mathematics in Paris, I completed a master's degree in Political Science in Chile, where I directed my first documentary. I continued my filmmaking career using identity and displacement as guiding threads, recurring themes in most of my films. These works have been screened at various international festivals (MIDFF Doker, IFF Message to Man, Festival ImagéSanté de Liège, ForumDoc BH, etc.) and on television channels such as TV5 Monde, Canal Futura, and CineBrasil TV. In parallel, I work with children through visual education workshops, sometimes combining film and theater.
